The outstanding characteristic of this tree is the large, spiny cones which are 8-16 in long, and weigh 4-10 lbs when fresh. Coulter Pines produce the largest cones of any pine tree species (people are actually advised to wear hardhats when working in Coulter Pine groves). Tree are found in small groves only in California.

Being struck on the head by a falling Coulter pine cone is reputed to be a potentially fatal experience.

They can be dressed up with ribbon to complement your theme or can be used by themselves for a simple natural look.
