Presenting favors at
a Shower is a lasting remembrance of this traditional celebration.
We introduce some suggestions for guest gifts, bridal shower games and baby shower games below. |
 |
The Tradition
The first Shower originated with a Dutch farmer, who refused
to recognize his daughter's groom choice, and neglected to give
her a dowry, an obligation of the times. Friends came to her
rescue and Showered her with the needed gifts. Here in America
we can trace the ceremonial gift-giving to quilting bees and
house raising.

Bridal Shower Games
|
A. "What is the Bride Wearing?"
Have the bride leave the room and ask everyone 10-20
questions about what the Bride is wearing (What color
shirt or dress?, Is she wearing a watch, earrings,
necklace, etc? What color shoes? Is she wearing nail
polish?, etc.). The person with the most correct answers
is the winner.
B. "Who am I Shower Game?"
A perfect way to start a shower. Ahead of time write the name of a famous people
on A piece of paper. As each guest arrives pin one of the "Tags" on their back without
their knowing the identity. The task is for the guest to find out who they are by asking other guests questions about them with only yes or no answers. First one to learn their true identity wins a prize.
C. "Shower Gift Bingo"
Before the party, draw a cube with 16 empty squares
on a piece of paper (so it looks like a Bingo card),
and make enough copies for all guests. Before the
Bride starts to open her gifts, hand out the copies
to everyone and have them fill in the blank boxes
with the names of any items they think the Bride will
receive as gifts, such as towels, napkins, etc. The
first person to get four in a row correct, or the
person that has the most boxes filled at the end is
the winner.( this is good with theme showers)
D." Wedding Dress Game You will need several rolls of white toilet paper. The guests are divided into teams of 2 or 3 and a model. The goal is for each group to fashion a "wedding dress" out of toilet paper. Accessories are allowed but they must also be fashioned out of the toilet paper. When each group is finished the bride picks the winner. Don't miss the photo opportunity here.

A. "Guess the Mommy's Girth Game?"
All the guests are asked to write down the measurement of the circumference around mommy's stomach . Then mommy is officially measured and the guest with the closest number wins a prize.
B. "Match the Baby Picture Game"
When the host sends out the invitations, they ask all the guests to bring a baby picture of themselves. The host arranges the photos with numbers, and a list of the names of the partygoers. The guests write down the name and matching picture number. The guest with the most correct matches wins a prize.
C. "Pass the Present Baby Shower Game"
The hostess starts with a gift which is wrapped numberous times with layers of different paper. This game is played like musical chairs. When the music starts, the gift is passed from person to person. Every time the music stops, whoever has the present removes a layer of paper. This continues until the last layer of paper is removed and you have a winner.
D."Name the Baby Food Game" Get some jars of baby food, remove the container labels after marking the lids by numbers. Have each person taste the food and try to guess what it is.
E." Rice &Clips Shower Game" Place rice in a large bowl, along with several small plastic paper clips. Each player blindfolded, reachs into the the bowl and tries to pick as many paper clips as they can in a specifiec time limit. The winner is the person who retrives the most paper clips, clothes pin or whatever.

Planning Tips
|
1. Always provide a non-alcoholic version
of special beverages for designated drivers and non-drinkers.
2. Have an alternative "bad weather" plan for
outdoor events.
3. If possible, keep an answering machine on
for the RSVP phone number to make it easier for people
to respond.
4. Move pets to a safe place to protect pets
and guests.
5. Mark the location outside for easy identification
with balloons or signs.
6. Have plenty of seating.
7. Don't try to plan more party activities
than you can handle.
8. Consider decorations for theme parties.
